about

For forty+ years Jürgen Kern has been honing his musical craft. The German-born, American-raised pianist has evolved into a versatile player, capable of spanning the spectrum from solo piano to participation in various sized ensembles, from free-form improv to jazz-funk to sophisticated pop and rock. In his solo piano work, Kern has tried to marry the brilliance of 1980s-era Keith Jarrett with the simplicity of Eric Satie. The intention is to find a musical form that is at once both relaxing and stimulating, without being boring or predictable.

Just like most other musicians, the pandemic wiped out Kern's performance schedule for all of 2020 and 2021. Now that it's 2022 the gigs are slowly coming back, but it's still an uncertain future.

Trying to stay productive, Kern spent time over the last winter recording his 2nd CD, the somewhat ironically named “Coronavirus Lullabies.” Combining acoustic piano, Fender Rhodes, Hammond B3 and a little bass, these are essentially lullabies “with an edge.”

Kern is also available for ceremonies like weddings or memorial services in circumstances where the music is appropriate for the family in question.
